Ian Park | Instructor of SAT & Mathematics
Ian Park is currently at Northwestern University, where he is studying Journalism and Economics. From an early age, Ian found creative writing as an outlet to explore world-crafting and storytelling. After winning awards for flash fiction & short story submissions to the Scholastic Art & Writing awards, he naturally gravitated towards journalism as a platform where he could air out the most pressing thoughts of both himself and his community. Ian joined Mission San Jose High School's Columbia Scholastic Press Association award-winning newspaper, the Smoke Signal, in his sophomore year as a staff-writer. In his senior year, he became an editor dedicated to mentoring younger writers closely throughout the writing process and hosting workshops on pressing issues such as the social responsibility of journalists and the current state of journalism. Outside of the newsroom, Ian found a niche for himself as a student leader, becoming MSJ’s ASB President. During his time leading ASB, he has helped organize major events such as a district-wide panel on mental health and racial microaggressions, club rushes for underclassmen, and fundraisers raising thousands of dollars for causes to combat the Australian wildfires and local food insecurities.
